Long Division 1 is designed for students entering grades 5–7 who need to master the standard long division algorithm when dividing by 1-digit numbers. This course is ideal for students who understand basic division facts but struggle to organize the steps of long division or frequently make calculation errors.
Each lesson begins with a brief review of multiplication facts and previously learned concepts, since success in division depends heavily on multiplication fluency. Students will learn to apply the classic Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Bring Down (DMSB) process to increasingly challenging problems involving multi-digit dividends.
On Friday, students solve division word problems that require them to determine whether to use the quotient only, include a remainder, or round up depending on the context.
By the end of the course, students will be able to accurately divide multi-digit numbers by 1-digit divisors, interpret remainders appropriately, and solve real-world division problems with confidence.
