Grade 6 Math — Full Program Description
The Grade 6 Math program at Big Brain Math Academy is a comprehensive, full-year course designed to transition students from foundational math into pre-algebra and abstract reasoning.
This course is specifically designed for homeschool students and provides the structure, consistency, and expert instruction needed to build strong mathematical understanding and prepare for future success.

Throughout the year, students will develop mastery in the following key areas:
Ratios & Proportional Thinking
Students will be introduced to proportional reasoning and learn to:
- understand ratios and equivalent ratios
- solve problems involving unit rates
- apply ratios to real-world situations

Fractions & Decimals
Students will deepen their understanding of fractions and decimals by learning to:
- divide fractions
- multiply and divide decimals

Percent & Applications
Students will learn how percentages are used in real life, including:

This program uses a flipped classroom model to maximize learning.
Before Class
Students watch a short, custom lesson video (5–8 minutes) to learn the concept at their own pace.
During Class
Live sessions focus on:

This allows students to actively engage with the material while receiving immediate feedback and support.
🗓 Schedule & Structure
- Classes meet 3 times per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday)
- Each class is 50 minutes
- The program runs from August through May
