  • add, subtract, and multiply decimals
  • understand place value to the thousandths
  • connect decimals to fractions
  • solve real-world problems involving decimals

Measurement

Students will explore more advanced measurement concepts, including:

  • converting measurement units within a system
  • understanding volume and solving volume problems
  • applying measurement concepts to real-world situations

Geometry

Students will build on their geometry knowledge by learning:

  • how to classify two-dimensional shapes
  • how to understand and measure angles
  • how to solve geometry-related problems
  • how to apply geometric reasoning in real-world contexts

Data Analysis

Students will develop skills in interpreting and analyzing data, including:

  • reading and interpreting graphs and charts
  • understanding patterns in data
  • solving real-world data problems

🔄 Instructional Approach

This program uses a flipped classroom model to maximize learning.

Before Class

Students watch a short, custom lesson video (5–8 minutes) to learn the concept at their own pace.

During Class

Live sessions focus on:

  • guided practice
  • problem solving
  • answering questions
  • correcting mistakes

This approach allows students to actively engage with math while receiving immediate support and feedback.

🗓 Schedule & Structure

  • Classes meet 3 times per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday)
  • Each class is 50 minutes
  • The program runs from August through May
  • Includes breaks for:
    • Thanksgiving
    • Christmas / Winter Break
    • Spring Break

📝 Practice & Assessment

Students will complete:

  • regular homework assignments
  • multi-step word problems
  • periodic quizzes and reviews
  • practice aligned with standardized assessments such as the Iowa Assessments

🎯 Program Goals

By the end of the course, students will:

  • demonstrate strong understanding of Grade 5 math concepts
  • improve accuracy and fluency with all four operations
  • confidently solve multi-step word problems
  • build readiness for middle school math
  • develop independence and confidence in their abilities

👨‍🏫 Who This Course Is For

This course is ideal for homeschool students who:

  • need structured math instruction
  • benefit from clear, step-by-step explanations
  • want consistent practice and accountability
  • are preparing for standardized assessments
  • need support or want to strengthen their math skills
